28/11/08 - A strong performance from Warriors B tonight but unfortunately the opposition were simply too good. Despite all 3 pairs managing to win games against LSW the match finished 9 – 0 to the away side. There are definitely positives to take away for the team though, with Mark Ellis and Nathan Quinn both playing well in their second matches for the side. Hopefully there’s better to come after Christmas! |

27/11/08 It was to time for the Warriors A team to show how much they want this season’s Div 1 title against Cudworth YM who in previous season have proved a thorn in the side of the Warriors A side. The night didn’t start well as R Quarmby & J Schofield went down to B Hurp & S Johnson 21-13 21-17. The Warriors pair were not knocked out by this defeat and showed true fighting spirit to go on and win their next against S Bramfoot & K Jones 21- 19 21-12. Their final game wasn’t played due to S White getting an injury so the YM pair conceded the point. Things began to look up as for the Warriors as W King and T Illidge faced as Hurp & Johnson as the second game of the night due to the other pairs turning up at different times as work constraints took precedence. They cruised to an easy victory of 21-10 21-13. The next pair they faced were D Riley & S White and again victory came easily in the form of 21-9 21-8 win for the Warriors pair. To finish of the night Illidge & King took on S Bramfoot & K Jones destroying any hopes of the YM side salvaging any further points winning 21-15 21-12. Will Browne & R Johnson did a top job on the YM side beating all 3 pairs in 2 ends and never looked like loosing an end all evening. Their scores against Hurp & Johnson were 12-21 15-21, against Bramfoot & Jones 10-21 18-21 and then Riley & White 16-21 18-21. The Warriors A side now only have one match left before the Xmas break and are looking like they could be right in the dog fight for the title honours by being just a couple of points off league leaders DHTC A. A top effort so far. |

27/11/08 – Warriors C took another long trip down to Manvers to face their B side. R Mason & R Robinson of Manvers had a close start loosing out to N Dix & R Thomas of Warriors 21-16 20-21 21-23. J Krill & O Brooke proved to be the strongest pair for Manvers winning 2 games, first up they beat S Booth & J Grist ( average’s title chasers) comfortably 21-19 21-12. Next they faced the young Pair A Celebricanin & N Quinn again cruising to victory 21-18 21-14. Only the hardened Warriors pair of N Dix & R Thomas proved one step too far beating the Manvers pair 16-21 19-21. B Harker and T Moxon of Manvers couldn’t convert any rubbers against the high flying Warriors team. Final score Manvers B 3 Warriors C 6. |
||
|
21/11/08 - Quaint Quarmby and Bilious Illidge let the team down by
dropping a rubber in this good natured Division 1 match against Staincross A,
seeing the Warriors win 8 - 1. |

|
21/11/08 The Warriors C team were back in action against Royston A on
Friday night and were given a bit of a lift on the road to victory due to
Royston only showing 2 pairs on the evening.
First up was Kathryn Taylorson & Mark Ellis of the Warriors
against A Hague and T Gill winning 21-15 21-7. Mark now back in the team after recovering
from knee surgery proved to be a formidable partner for Kathryn as they
cruised through the next game against W Harston and S Broadhurst. Simon
Booth and James Grist were back in their usual form for the Home side beating
Hague and Gill 21-11 21 -7. In the
next game against Harston and Broadhurst
thing were a little more difficult as the home side won 21-15 19-21
21-16. Rob Thomas and Nathan Quinn
were put together on the night for the first time and things set off great as
the Warriors pair won easily against A Hague and T Gill of Royston 21-13 21-13. But it was
in the next game against Harston and Broadhurst that proved one step too far for the home pair
as they lost the game 17-21 20- 21. It
was a real shame that Roystonn could only manage to
field to pairs o the night as both teams at the end of the season will be
pushing for title honours. |

|
19/11/08 - A disappointing night for Warriors B as they went down 8 – 1 against Cudworth. Things began well as Rob Archer and Simon Turner took their first game to make the score 1 – 1 but they lost form. Despite going close in a number of games, Steve Nottingham and Mark Ellis, and Tony Fox and Dave Farrar couldn’t convert performances into points and Cudworth took the vast majority of the points. |
|
|
|
14/11/08 -Warriors B went down fighting against a strong DHTC B side tonight. Rob Archer and Richard Johnson began well, comfortably winning their first two games, but then came unstuck against the opposition’s first pair to lose their first match as a pair. Despite going close, Warriors other pairs of Tony Fox and Dave Farrar, and Steve Nottingham and Richard Brown could only take one point each for the home team. Final score: Warriors B 4 – 5 DHTC B. |

|
14/11/08 - Warriors C took on the Wrenthorpe A in what was a typical local derby match with both teams going toe to toe and trading blows. Simon Booth and James Grist toughed it out and won all three for the warriors setting of with a cruise win of 21-10 21-10. Against A Carter and D Hooley it was a little tighter winning 21-19 21-15. Fatigue for James and Simon was beginning to set in but they managed to convert the 3rd game in three ends 21-16 14-21 21-19 against the battling pair of R Cowther and S Pickles of Wrenthorpe. Rob Thomas and Andy Pickett Cruised to 3 easy wins for the Warriors against the Wrenthorpe pairs that sealed the match for the Warriors. Only the pair of Neil Dix and A Celibricanin lost all three of their games to salvage some pride for the Wrenthorpe outfit. Final Score Warriors C 6 Wrenthorpe A 3 |

14/11/08- And we're back! A week in
politics is nothing compared to 4 nights in a badminton league. Warriors A
completed a convincing 9 - 0 victory away to Staincross C to compliment the 7
- 2 result at LSW. This 20 point return has catapulted the team to top
of the Barnsley District first division. The win against Staincross saw Tony
Illidge and Wayne King taking all of their 3 rubbers without dropping an end
along with Rohan Quarmby and Mark Illidge matching them end for end. However,
Richard Johnson and Jon Schofield had a scare in their third match of the
night dropping the middle set. It was only the threat of a losing pair having
to buy the beers all night for the rest of the team that brought the
necessary focus back to their game. |
||
|
09/11/08 Battle-hardened Warriors came off
the battlefield 7-2 to the good. With players returning from injury and
holiday the Warriors fielded a stronger team to attend to LSW. Wayne King and
Will Browne lead the way with a solid victory in the first end. However, it
was a costly rubber for Browne who used his racket as a weapon with too much
vigour to find a drop shot disintegrate the head. |
||
Fri 31 Oct - A real shock result tonight as title favourites DHTC A
lost 5 -4 against lowly Wakefield Warriors B. Things began badly for
DHTC as two of their players pulled out of the game at extremely short
notice. This left DHTC with no choice but to field only 2 pairs,
meaning they started the match 3 - 0 down. Their two pairs were still
strong enough to comfortable beat Warriors lower pairs of Tony Fox and Dave
Farrar, and Rob Archer and Steve Nottingham, but it was a different story for
Richard Johnson and Tim Howcroft. The
Warriors first pair beat both of DHTC's pairs, coming from behind in the last
rubber to clinch a great win for the home side.
|
||
|
24/10/08 – A lost battle but not
the war for the Warriors A team. Previous match reports featured in the
Barnsley Chronical had stiffed the sinus and
summoned up the blood of DHTC players by the editors comment that Warriors A
were the title favourites. |
||
24/10/08 – Warrior A took on DHTC A but
couldn’t quite manage to overturn the current league champions despite a very
impressive performance by Wayne King and Will browne who managed to win all
three of their games quite comfortably.
Jon Schofield and Rohan Quarmby didn’t get a win in any of their
matches despite two of them going to three ends. Mark Illidge and Richard Browne were outgunned in two of their games but in
the final game of their evening they really pushed hard against DHTC pair
Dave Holmes and Mick Cotterill winning the first end 21 4, the next end DHTC
took 21 19 which they copied in the third despite Mark and Richard being
19-13 up! This result really puts the
pressure on the Warriors to start upping their game if their title ambitions
are to be realised. WARIORS A 3 DHTC6.
|
||
Wed 22 Oct - Warriors B stormed to an excellent 8 - 1 victory away
against Staincross B. Things got off to a
slightly worrying start as Rob Archer and stand-in Howard Johnson lost to the
Staincross second pair, but Tim Ross and Steve Nottingham, and Tony Fox and
Dave Farrar held strong to take their opening games. It was more or
less plain sailing from then on, as Warriors went on
to take all the remaining games despite the odd scare. Well done guys!
|

|
17/10/08Lambs
to the slaughter... Warriors A beat Staincross B 9 - 0 without dropping a
single end. Based
upon a rotation system and an injury still requiring treatment, the home side
fielding only 1 pair the same from the previous week but the quality of all
players showed when needed. Mark Illidge and Wayne King lead the way with the
first victor, however it took the 15 points before
they started to hit the minimum standards they set for themselves. Andy Jones
and Will Browne saw their first match for the Warriors this season and cruised
through their games, typically kicking on from around 11 points in each end
to win in comfort. Rohan Quarmby and Jon Schofield were the tail gunners and
showed their class all through, although a late arrival direct from work
showed in the first few points. Injury
struck Tony Illidge showed his team commitment by supporting and scoring in
many of the rubbers. With this performance from Tony he was voted MVP, even
though he struggled to count to 21 in some ends. Will
Browne was so delighted with the victory he threw his shirt to the crowd (of
3). However the crowd’s reaction showed by leaving the shirt behind for the
cleaners. Next
week’s home fixture against DHTC A will require a much higher level of tempo.
BRING IT ON! |

17/10/08
– Warriors C got back to winning ways By beating Shepley
A 7 -2! First up were Kathryn Taylorson and Nathan Quinn winning 2 out of
their three games. The only game they lost was decided over a close three end
game against A Marin and N Robinson.
This same pair also beat Neil Dix and Rob Thomas again in a strong
three end game. Simon Booth and James
Grist returned back to the form that they failed to show at Manvers last
week, cruising to 3 easy wins. A great
win for the Warriors. |
||
|
16/10/08
- Warriors B went away to Cudworth YM and came back with a couple of valuable
points but sadly not a win. Steve Nottingham and Will Browne led the way
taking 2 rubbers for the team, but Rob Archer and Nathan Quinn spurned the
best chance for more points losing 23-21 in the third end against Cudworth's second pair. Dave Farrar and Tony Fox
completed the team, but also failed to pick up any points. We're looking
forward to better things now with a game against Staincross C to come! |
||
|
10/10/08
- Staincross A played Wakefield Warriors B in a close fought battle.
Things began well for Staincross as David Hyde and Mick Flynn, and Dave
Burgin and Simon Clarke won their opening games, with only Rob Archer and
Richard Johnson managing to win for Warriors .
Warriors then began to mount a comeback with Simon Booth and James Grist
taking a game, and the score moving on to 4 – 3 to Warriors. Staincross
finished the strongest, however, with Dave Hobson and Mark Hinchcliffe
overcoming Steve Nottingham and Dave Farrar to make the final score 5 – 4 to
Staincross. |

|
|
09/10/08 Warriors C took the long ride down to face a very strong Manvers A side. The usual strong pair of Simon Booth and James Grist only posted 1 win from three and will probably serve as a wakeup call to them if they are to now go on and put their hands on the league averages title. Dave Farrah and Katherine Taylorson again only won 1 although one of their game went to 3 ends. Nathan Quinn and Alek Celebricanin put in a brave effort but where not strong enough to turn over a well drilled Manvers side. These 2 are a pair for the future and I expect them to come on leaps and bounds throughout the season. Manvers A 7 Warriors C 2 ! |
||
|
03/10/08
Wakefield Warriors A took on Cudworth at home and received a massive blow to
their title hope for this season. Tony
Illidge and Wayne King only managed to post 1 win out of 3 although Tony
Illidge suffered a bad shoulder injury in the second game that totally
changed the outlook of the match. Mark
Illidge and Richard Johnson partnered up for the first time again only
winning 1 game out of three. They lost
an epic game against Kate and Trevor Haller in 3 ends losing the final end 21
23. Next up was Jon Schofield and Rohan Quarmby. The reunited pair got 2 sets out of 3 to
salvage a very close loss on the night for the Warriors. Lee Evans and James Noble of Cudworth
showed their class on the night by posting 3 wins from 3. A McNiesh and R Spencley where the unfortunate pair for Cudworth not
posting any wins. Final score Warriors 4 Cudworth 5. |
||
|
03/10/08
Wakefield Warriors C took on Staincross D. James Grist and Simon Booth
posted 3 wins out of 3 for the warriors outfit and are looking like a strong
tip for this seasons averages title. Dave Farrah and
Alek Celibricanin paired
up for the first time and won 2 games out of 3 only losing a game to D Wilkie and D Braithwate.
Katherine Taylorson and Andy Boothroyd got won win
from 3 but were very unlucky as they lost their last set 20-21 and 20-21
against E White and K Beardshall. R Cobley
and L Kelly got one win from three to make the final score Wakefield Warriors
C 6 Staincross D 3. A great win for the Warriors. |
||

02/10/08
- The B team had their second match of the season last Friday away against
Staincross C. This was a big match between two teams which are likely to be
occupying the lower ends of the table. Warriors got off to a good start with
all 3 pairs winning their first rubbers. Richard Brown and Steve Nottingham
went on to star by winning all 3, despite going dangerously close to losing
against the opposition's third pair. They were well supported by Tony Fox and
Dave Farrar winning 2, and Kathryn Taylorson and Rob Archer rounded off a
good win taking 1 rubber against the opposition's third pair. The match
finished 6 - 3 to Warriors. Next up Staincross A! |
||
|
02/10/08 - Warrior fought warrior in the battle of Lightwaves.
The extended scoring for this season saw the battle taken all the way with a
spirited performance from the B team; however, the players received no
rewards for their efforts with the A team winning out 9 – 0.
|

|
23/08/08
- Getting close to the start of the season now and fixtures are up on the site.
Please let me know of any alterations or mistakes that you spot - there's
bound to be at least one! |
||
|
03/07/08 - Long time since the last update! A mixed season in the end for our teams. The A team finished 2nd in division 1, and the new C team finished a respectable mid-table in division 2. Not so good news for the B team however, finishing bottom of division 1. It hasn't yet been decided whether the team will be relegated or not, but hopefully they will have another chance to prove themselves next season. The club AGM takes place next Friday (11th June) and play continues over the Summer, looking forward to the start of the new season. |
||
|
22/02/08 - The C team went down again to the Wrenthorpe A team despite a very valiant effort. Robin Misra and Nathan Quinn managed to win one game out of three but pushed very hard in their first game to lose in three ends. Christin Tiedemann and Neil Dix couldn’t convert a game but it has to be said that it was their first game together so the scores they got against the strong Wrenthorpe outfit were quite respectable. Amy Gould and Mark Elliss were the stars of the night winning all three of their games in comfort. |
||
|
22/02/08 - The B team won their second match of the season Five games to four. Simon Turner and Richard Browne showed their class by winning all three games albeit 2 of them taking three ends to win. Steve Nottingham and Rob Archer took one game from three with all of their games going to three ends showing that they can compete at this level. Finally Dave Farrer and last minute substitute Simon Booth again managed to take one game from three to seal the win for the Warriors B side. The B team recorded the same result as their A team counterparts and should take great heart in that fact. |
||
|
11/2/2008 - The A team had a
massive win against Staincross A away. Tony Illidge and Wayne King won
3 out of 3 although two of the games were taken in three ends. Jared Ellam and Jon Schofield matched this with another 3 out of 3. Only the unlucky pair of Rohan
Quarmby and Mark Illidge lost 1 game in the end. Mark and Rohan had
been sat off of court for quite some time due to
the Staincross 1st pair saying they were not going to play due to an injury
Liam Sloane. Right at the end of the night Liam decided to have a go at
playing and managed to overturn the Warriors pair. |
||
|
8/2/2008 - The C team had an excellent victory tonight away against Barnsley Health. Despite their opposition flying high in the table the team managed to take the match 7-2. Kathryn and Mark led the way winning all three games, while Robin and Andy, and Simon Booth and his partner both lost one each. |
||
|
8/2/2008 - The A team had a very close shave against Cudworth at home winning the match 5-4. Wayne King and Tony Illidge won 2 out of three only losing to Trevor Haller and Kate Haller. Kate being back to her best it has to be said and also Tony suffering from a bout of Flu. Next was Jon Schofield and Rohan Quarmby who had the same result as Wayne and Tony winning two out of three against the same pairings. Mark Illidge and stand in player Tony Fox managed just the one win to secure the match for the warriors. This match could have been a bit of a banana skin for the Warriors as was proved in the previous match but in the end the Warriors A side got to grips with the opposition and stole the bonus two points. |
||
|
5/2/2008
- The B team suffered a 9-0 away defeat against the league's top team tonight.
None of the pairs ever really got going against a very strong DHTC A team,
and the result was quite predictable. Hopefully next season we can give them
more of a challenge! |
||
|
1/2/08 - The A team got a well deserved win against another strong Cudworth Ym side. Tony Illidge & Wayne King won 2 out three games unexpectedly losing one game to Steve Bramfoot and Ken Jones. This was probably due to Wayne having played four matches that week on the bounce and looked a little jaded in his point finishing. Mark Illidge and Rohan Quarmby managed only one game from three although they pushed the opposition all the way. John Schofield and Jared Ellam won two out of their three games with a nail biting finish in the final game. They managed pip their opponents to the post 15-14 in the third to give the home side a sweet win against YM who had done the same at their home venue. Final score Warriors 5 YM 4. |
||
|
1/2/08 - The C team showed a quality performance on Friday to beat Staincross C 5-4. The Staincross outfit who are second in the table to their B team were left stunned as the home side pinched the win from them. Paul walker, who after this match will be promoted in to the Warriors B side won two games out of three. Robin Misra and Nathan Quinn matched their senior team mates with two wins from three. The last minute substitute Andy Pickett who is returning back to badminton from injury partnered up with Andy Boothroyd to take one win from three. This is a top result for the team as Staincross C have only lost one other match this season |
||
|
31/01/08 - The C team pumped in another top performance away against Shepley A to win the match 2-7. Simon Booth and Rob Thomas set the footings by taking three from three. Paul Walker and Kath Taylorson took two from three to seal the win for the Warriors although they were a little disapointed to lose their first game in three ends. Robin Misra and Nathan Quinn got two from three and again they were slightly disapointed to lose their third game in three ends. The warriors C team must now surely be pushing for top four position in Div 2 which is a fantastic effort considering it is the first season for them in the league. |
||
|
30/1/08
- Still awaiting a report from someone who was there, but the B team went down
5-4 against Cudworth tonight. |
||
|
25/1/08
- The B team went down 8-1 at home against Staincross A tonight. A slightly
disappointing result given how often the team reached 14 without winning the
final point, a few rallies going the other way could have made a big
difference to the score. The fight seems to be on now to avoid last place! |
||
|
18/01/08 The A team suffered another body to blow their title hopes on Friday as they crashed 1-8 to the league top side DHTC A. The one game that the warriors managed to pick up was by Wayne King and Tony Illidge who both showed some great form to beat the best pair in the Barnsley league. Unfortunately they were unable convert any other games despite a valiant effort in the second game. The other two pairs of Mark Illidge and Rohan Quarmby then Jon Schofield and Jared Ellam also failed to convert any games into wins but again this wasn’t down to lack of effort as both pairs took their games to three ends. The league title has probably gone from the teams grasp now but the race is on for second spot with many of the other teams snapping at their heals. |
||
|
16/01/08 - The C team suffered its first loss of the second half of the season as they went 8-1 against league pace setters Staincross B. Paul Walker and Amy Gould pick up the only game for the Warriors but struggled to cope against the other two Staincross pairs who only last year were playing in Div 1. Mark Ellis and Kath Taylorson just missed out on a win by taking a couple of the games to three ends. Simon Booth and Robin Misra again couldn’t get on top of the form home team although this wasn’t down to lack of effort on anyone’s part. Staincross showed on the night why they are probably going to go up into Div1 at the end of the season but the Warriors did compete in all games played and are showing to the rest of the league why the deserve to have been put straight in at the Division 2 level. |
||
|
13/1/08
- The league has supplied us with league tables over Christmas. Most people have
probably had these in an email by now but they are also available on the
website by following this link |
||
|
11/1/08
- The C team got off to a good start to the second half of the season by
beating FSJH 5-4 at home an an
absolute thriller. The pair of the night was Mark Ellis and Kath
Taylorson who battled all the way winning two games out of three. Kath
ad Mark held their nerve in the final set of a three end nailbiter,
winning the final end 15-14. Another fine performance was put in by
Simon Booth and Richard Brown winning two games out of three again with some
three end nailbiting finishes. In the games that
they won tough Richard’s smash proved far too devastating for the opposition
to cope with. Paul Walker and Nathen Quinn
won one from three which is really a good result as Nathan has just come back
into the sport after having a three year layoff and being thrown in at the
deep end along with Paul Walker as neither had partnered up with each other
before. Nathan is definitely a player of the future and I believe will
improve quite quickly if he turns out regularly in the team. A top
performance by all players on show. |
||
|
9/1/08 - The A team went down to a 6-3 loss against probably the strongest Cudworth team that has been on show for a number of years. First up was Wayne King and Tony Illidge who set the scene of the night by losing in 3 ends. After being 14-9 down in the third they drew level only to fall at the last hurdle and not convert the win. They carried on to beat Karen Hirst and Kim Stothard in two ends but lost very convincingly against former league top players Lee Evans and Paul Tiggerdean. Rohan Quarmby and Jon Schofield had a very simaler result to their team mates with very similar scores in the games they played. Again they managed to beat Kim and Karen quite easily but struggled against the other two pairs as Wayne and Tony did! The third pair of the night was Andy Jones and Tony ruttle who again only managed the one win from three against Karen and Kim. It proved to be one of those nights for all three Wakefield pairs where the flight of the feather/ rub of the green went against the Wakefield team. Probably on another night it would have been a different result, thats Badminton for you! |
||
|
23/11/07 - The A team finished on a massive high for the first half of the season by beating DHTC B 9-0!!! The newly promoted side showed that they could mix it with our A team by taking some games to three ends including an absolute epic game between home players Jon Schofield and Jared Ellam v Simon Barber and young player of the year Alex Dakin. The scores were 15-14 14-15 15-14 to Jon and Jared! Team Captain Mark Illidge and Rohan Quarmby partnered up to give what looked like a new found confidence in Marks game winning all three. Wayne King and first team stalwart Tony Illidge won all three games although in the last game they were taken to three ends probably due to switching on the cruise control in the second end losing it 14-15. With the cruise control switched off and the pedal stuck firmly to the metal the accelerated away from the away pair to win that one 15-9! |
||
|
22/11/07 - The C team played away to Manvers A narrowly missing the win. It was a totally unusual team for the Warriors C team with a couple of new recruits on show for the first time. The First pair was Amy Gould and New player Judith Spangenberg. They managed to win one game from three although the two game they lost was were taken to three ends, in fact in the final game of the match the decider was only lost 15-13. Mark Ellis and Kath Taylorson again only picked up the one game but in the first match of the night they narrowly missed out on the second win by losing the game in three ends. Team regular Simon Booth and the other new recruit Gaz Murray were thrown together for the night and instantly matched up well winning two games from three. They only lost to the top pair of the Manvers side who in my opinion are more than strong enough for Div 1 in reality. |
||
|
16/11/07 - The A team were back in action against Staincross A. All three pairs put in a strong performance on the night with just the pairing of Wayne King (who should have knocked his game up a little) and Steve Nottingham missing on winning all three games to Staincross pair Liam Sloane and Ian Roscoe. Mark Illidge and Rohan Quarmby recorded three wins from three despite Rohan carrying a leg injury and again Tony Illidge and Jon Schofield recorded three wins from three even though they hadn’t played together before in anger! None of the partnerships on show for the home side were the usual partnerships but in the end an 8-1 victory was made through a strong team effort on the night, with all players that played for the Warriors showing that they were willing and capable to alter pairings in order to make sure that a strong result was made even though usual B team player Steve Nottingham was playing up. Steve did a fine job of playing up for the A team and on a different night with Wayne King, would have probably taken all three games. Well done lads. That was a great TEAM performance! |
||
|
16/11/07 - The C team went down to another loss unfortunately although it has to be said the team was decimated to due to several regular players being away on holiday and business. Mark Elliss and Kath Taylorson apparently showed fine form and with a little practice could become a strong partnership for the C team. Neil Dix and Simon Booth only recorded the one win from three but with scores of all their games close it could quite easily have been a different story. New recruit Amy Gould and regular reserve Andy Pickett partnered each other for the first and again only managed to win one game from three. A lot of this is probably due to lack of experience this season with the plastic shuttle but I am sure they will be stronger next time now they have got that game under their belts. Again this was in actual fact a good result for the team and showed that if you can play as a team you can get a better result than was probably expected. Wrenthorpe A 6 Warriors C 3. |
||
|
15/11/07
- The B team played away against Cudworth YM tonight, a team that beat our A team
5-4. Despite some good performances and several games going to 3 ends the
team ended up losing 8-1, with only Simon and Roy picking up anything for the
team. Next up is a crucial game against DHTC B - a must win! |
||
|
09/11/07
- Another defeat for the B team as well tonight, though in fact it was a good
performance against the league's top team, DHTC A. The B team were never
expecting to win this match and did well to take several of the games to 3
ends, but unfortunately never quite did enough to pick up any points. The
search for a victory goes on next week against Cudworth! |
||
|
09/11/07 - It was a disappointing night for the C team as we didn’t manage to get as close to BHS A as expected due to circumstances beyond the teams control. In the first game of the evening , Kathryn Taylorson and Andy Boothroyd lost the first end 10-15 only to reply with a fantastic 15-1 reply to take it to three sets. In the deciding set Andy unfortunately twisted his ankle/foot which ultimately led to them losing the game 8-15. Although he battled on in the next two rubbers they were unable to convert a game into a win. The second pair of Neil Dix and new recruit Richard Brown put in a strong performance by winning 2 games out of three with all winning ends finishing 15-11. They were again very unlucky in the first game, losing the game in three ends. It was not a bad effort for the pair as it was their first match together. Simon Booth and Rob Thomas were another unlucky pair of the night as they only won one game from three . Losing their first rubber 15-11, 10-15, 14-15 they really couldn’t have pushed anymore what is probably BHS A’s strongest pair of Andy Coe and G Yoxhall. If the C team carry on the season in this spirit though they will definitely get back into the winning groove! |

2/11/07
- The B team played a strong Cudworth side and ended up losing 6-3. Things
began badly with all 3 Warriors pairs losing to their first and second pairs.
Things did pick up when their third pairs eventually arrived though, and
pairs of Tony Fox and Dave Farrar, Jared Ellam and
Paul Walker, and Rob Archer and Steve Nottingham all managed to beat this
pair to salvage some much needed points for the B team. Next up DHTC A -
should be easy! |

01/11/07 - The A team suffered its second loss of the season
against Cudworth YM despite a valiant effort by all involved. Wayne
King and Tony Illidge didn’t
hit top form and only recorded 1 from 3. Mark Illidge and Will
Browne also recorded 1 from 3. John Schofield and Rohan Quarmby managed
to win two out of three to push the opposition all the way. John and
Rohan are showing some fine form at the moment and if they keep this up they
may well be up for the league average title come the end of the season.

29/10/07 - The C team suffered its first loss of the season
despite having what on paper looked like a very strong team. Rob Thomas and
Chris Payne were the real surprise pair of the night only managing to win one
rubber from three. This was probably due to outside factors like Rob
just getting back off holiday and Chris Payne suffering from his long term
knee injury. This looks to have put Chris out now for the remainder of
the season until he can have surgery to sort the problem. The pair of
Paul Walker and Robin Misra recorded two wins from
three after losing the first game in two ends, against a very strong
Staincross C team pair. After discussing the first rubber loss and
putting a plan into action they then went from strength to strength and won
the next two rubbers in two ends decisively. |

19/10/07 – Following in the tracks of the A team the C team decided to emulate their A-team team mates by thrashing Ossett Sports 7 – 2. The pair of Simon Booth and Paul Walker won all three rubbers without really breaking sweat. This was backed up by Mark Illidge and Andy Boothroyd who also won all three rubbers. The unlucky pair of the night was Neil Dix and Robin Misra who only recorded one win from three although one of their games went to three ends but unfortunately they failed to convert it into a win. The lads were gutted in the end but I am sure with just a little more practice together they will start turning things around and winning at least two out of three games a night! The C team are now really putting themselves in with a shot at the title if they carry this kind of form into the next few games. With a strong team due to be fielded against Staincross C i.e. the resurgence of Paul Walker to the club who is surely going to be pushing for a B team spot after Christmas and the return of former star A team player Chris Payne coming back into the fold things are looking bright! In fact the future bright, the future’s WARRIORS! |

19/10/07 – The A team played LSW and recorded a fantastic 6-3 win over their competitors to show the rest of the league that this season the Warriors are to be taken really seriously as title contenders. Wayne King and Tony Illidge won two from three beating Ron Mellor and Bok in three ends, a pair that they have never managed to defeat in years gone by. Rohan Quarmby And Jon Schofield (now fully paid up members) hit top form beating the other two LSW pairs very convincingly. Finally Fayaz Ladak and stand in super sub Simon Turner put in another top performance to also win two games from three only losing their last game in three ends against Ron and Bok. The A team is now well placed to make an attack on the Barnsley league Div 1 title; it is just a matter of putting in the same kind of performance in all the remaining matches. Again well done boys. Let keep pushing hard!!! |

17/10/07
– The B team went
down 5-4 against a very resilient Staincross A side, although strong pairing
of Tony Fox and Dave Farrah, Mark Illidge and Jared Ellam,
Wayne King and Steve Nottingham were on show for the B team. Dave and Tony unfortunately
failed to convert a game whist Mark and Jared only managed a single win from
three which was a very uncharacteristic display! The only bright side
for the team was a great performance from Steve and Wayne who managed to win
all three of their games! The team showed a slight improvement in play
against last season’s Div 2 winners of whom they came up
with. With
many new factors to the team this season i.e. change of scoring and now
playing with feathers the B team players now need to show just what they and
we all know they are capable of doing. Come on guys, time to knock it
up a level!!! |

15/10/07
- The C team have also got off to a strong start, starting with a 7-2 home
victory over Shepley A followed by an 8-1 victory
away to FSJH. At the FSJH match only the pair of Robin Misra
and Wayne King dropped a game although they did manage to push the opposition
all the way and take it to three ends. Strong displays from Mark Illidge and
Jill Topliss, then Simon Booth and Rob Thomas all
winning their games convincingly to kill off any hopes the home team may of
had! With a couple of players still to come in for the C team like Paul
Walker and possibly Chris Payne this team could do better than was originally
predicted!It's going well so far for our teams, now
the B team need to look for their first win on Wednesday against Staincross A
- it won't be easy! |

15/10/07 - Last nights result at
DHTC was DHTC A 5 Wakefield Warriors A
4. The team was really unlucky not to
win the match with a stellar performance from pairs Will Browne and Jared Ellam and Tony Illidge and Wayne King recording two wins
out of three against a very strong DHTC side. Only the pair of Rohan Quarmby
and Jon Schofield were unable to convert a game but
were very unlucky in the final game losing in the 3rd end 15-13. Both
guys were absolutely gutted at the loss but they can take heart in the fact
they actually wore down the opposition enabling the other two pairs to
compete. A 5-4 loss against DHTC A of whom have won the Division 1 title
over the last 7-8 years is no mean feat and hopefully a great indicator off
what kind of season the club as a whole is about to have!
Well
done to all who played in the match. WE WILL HAVE THEM NEXT TIME AT HOME. |
